Peng Shuai, born in 1986 in Hunan, is a Chinese tennis player who started her career in 2001.

The highest ranking I achieved in the women's doubles competition was #1.

She is the first Chinese women's and men's doubles and singles player to reach first place in the world.

The 35-year-old, a former Roland Garros and Wimbledon doubles champion, has kept a low profile since earlier this month accusing former Deputy Prime Minister Zhang Gaoli of sexual assault.

American tennis star Serena Williams tweeted on Thursday that she was concerned about Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai.

There has been no news of her since the beginning of this month, after she accused former Chinese Vice Prime Minister Zhang Ju Li of "rape".

Today, Thursday, former world number one Williams wrote on her Twitter account: "I am devastated and shocked to hear the news about my colleague Peng Shuai."

She added, "I hope she is safe and found as soon as possible. This must be investigated and we must not remain silent. All the love to her and her family at this difficult time."

And the French newspaper (Le Parisien) said that the player disappeared on November 4 after it was published on Chinese media, and tennis celebrities questioned the disappearance of the young woman and used the hashtag (Where Is PengShuai).

And the newspaper quoted the Chinese state-run channel (CGTN) an email that it posted on Twitter, attributed to Peng Shuai, claiming it sent it to the WTA administration, without confirming the authenticity of the message.

(Le Parisien) said that what was stated in the letter contradicts "Beng Shuai's accusations of the former deputy prime minister of raping her three years ago."

And the message attributed to the player stated, “The information on the accusation of sexual assault is false, I am neither missing nor in danger, I was resting at home, and everything is fine.”

The content of the message raised doubts about its authenticity, after Twitter users noticed a space symbol (the symbol used on the keyboard to put a space between words) on the text of the email.

"I am extremely concerned for the safety of Bing Shuai, and I find it hard to believe that she actually wrote the letter we received," WTA president Steve Simon said in a statement Wednesday.
